In a development for spiritual tourism, Uttarakhand Tourism has launched the ‘Mount Kailash Darshan from Indian Soil’ pilgrimage, offering pilgrims a unique opportunity to witness Mount Kailash from the Old Lipulekh Peak, alongside the sacred Om Parvat in Pithoragarh district. This marks the first time pilgrims can view the revered Mount Kailash without crossing international borders.
The new pilgrimage route was discovered during an expedition conducted by Uttarakhand Tourism, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The team identified a special viewpoint from where the majestic Mount Kailash is visible from Indian soil, prompting the state tourism department to create a new tour package.
This pilgrimage allows visitors to experience not only Mount Kailash but also Adi Kailash and Om Parvat, all within Uttarakhand. The first group of pilgrims began their journey from Gunji, a base in Pithoragarh district, where they visited Adi Kailash before returning to Pithoragarh.
The tour package enhances convenience by offering helicopter services between Pithoragarh and Gunji, making the pilgrimage more accessible. Pilgrims can choose accommodations at government-run KMVN guest houses or opt for homestays with local families, providing an authentic cultural experience.
