Air India & Lufthansa Group Expand Alliance, Strengthen India–Europe Air Corridor

In a major boost to India–Europe aviation connectivity, Air India and Lufthansa Group have expanded their strategic partnership, deepening cooperation across schedules, codeshare routes and frequent flyer programmes.

The enhanced alliance is expected to significantly improve connectivity between India and key European gateways including Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Vienna, offering passengers seamless onward access to multiple secondary cities across the continent.

The development comes at a time when India–Europe travel demand is witnessing steady momentum, driven by corporate travel recovery, student mobility and strong outbound leisure traffic. Industry analysts view the move as strategically timed, allowing both carriers to optimise capacity deployment and improve network efficiency across one of India’s most important long-haul corridors.

For Indian travellers, the expanded partnership promises better route options, smoother transfers and integrated ticketing benefits. European passengers, meanwhile, will gain stronger access into India’s metro cities and growing secondary destinations.

From a travel trade perspective, the deeper alliance is expected to open additional inventory, competitive fare combinations and improved itinerary flexibility — particularly valuable for multi-sector Europe bookings.

The move further signals Air India’s aggressive global repositioning strategy as it accelerates fleet modernisation and international network expansion.
