Air India to Standardise Three-Class Cabin Across Fleet; All Retrofits to Feature Premium Economy

Air India is moving towards a uniform three-class cabin configuration across both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, signalling a decisive push toward premiumisation of its product offering.

The airline confirmed that all retrofitted aircraft — including Boeing 787 and 777 fleets — will feature Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy cabins. Currently, several wide-body aircraft operate with only two classes.

The strategy aims to ensure customer consistency regardless of aircraft type. “Whether narrow body or wide body, the customer will get a three-cabin experience,” the airline indicated, underlining its focus on product standardisation as part of its transformation roadmap.

This move is expected to significantly strengthen Air India’s premium positioning on international routes.
