IndiGo Appoints Amitabh Kant as Additional Director Following Government Clearance

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has officially appointed Amitabh Kant as an Additional Director on its board with effect from September 15, 2025, after receiving the requisite security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). The airline’s parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, confirmed the development in a regulatory filing, noting that Kant will serve in the capacity of Non-Executive Non-Independent Director.

IndiGo had earlier announced Kant’s nomination to its board on July 3, 2025, pending mandatory clearances. A former CEO of Niti Aayog and India’s G20 Sherpa, Kant brings decades of experience in policy-making, governance, and global economic diplomacy to the airline’s leadership team. His appointment is expected to strengthen IndiGo’s strategic vision as it continues to expand both domestically and internationally.

The airline stated, “The company has received the requisite security clearance dated September 15, 2025, from MoCA. Accordingly, Kant’s appointment shall be effective from September 15, 2025.” With this addition, IndiGo aims to leverage Kant’s expertise in driving policy reforms and fostering international partnerships, further bolstering its position in India’s rapidly growing aviation market.
