Kerala Tourism Unveils New Attractions to Boost Domestic Footfall Ahead of Summer

Expecting a significant rise in domestic tourist arrivals, Kerala Tourism launched a series of enticing products in the national capital, promising visitors a rich blend of quality experiences and memorable vacations. Addressing a press conference during the Partnership Meet, Kerala Tourism Director Sikha Surendran assured that the state’s enduring appeal continues to evolve with innovative initiatives, reinforcing its reputation as a year-round destination.

With domestic tourists forming the backbone of Kerala’s thriving tourism industry, the state has initiated an extensive all-India campaign to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders and prepare for the summer vacation rush. Kerala has seen a consistent surge in domestic tourist arrivals, surpassing pre-pandemic levels in 2022 and recording unprecedented footfalls in 2023. The trend has continued into 2024, with over 1.08 crore domestic tourists visiting the state in the first half of the year alone.

To expand its reach, Kerala Tourism has scheduled pre-summer B2B roadshows in Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Chennai, and Kolkata, following the first roadshow of 2024 held in Hyderabad on January 21. This outreach aims to ensure seamless travel experiences by engaging facilitators from across the country. Special focus is being placed on promoting North Kerala destinations such as Bekal, Wayanad, and Kozhikode, alongside lesser-known locations that now feature improved infrastructure and connectivity.

Kerala’s tourism sector has also earned global recognition, with the state being ranked second among the “Most Welcoming Regions” in the 13th Annual Travellers Review Awards by Booking.com. Beyond its iconic houseboats, beaches, hill stations, and backwaters, the state is offering enhanced cultural and literary experiences. The Nishagandhi Dance Festival, set to take place from February 14 to 20 in Thiruvananthapuram, will showcase renowned artists performing classical dance forms like Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, and Manipuri.

Additionally, Kerala is strengthening its position as an adventure tourism hotspot, hosting international Surfing, Paragliding, and Mountain Cycling championships in February and March. The International Surfing Festival will be held in Varkala on February 27-28, followed by the International Paragliding Festival at Vagamon from March 19-23, and the Mountain Terrain Biking Championship (MTB Kerala 2025) at Mananthavady in Wayanad from March 28-30.

Kerala has also emerged as a sought-after destination for weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events, attracting Indian and international visitors seeking unique venues. With its breathtaking landscapes, world-class facilities, and a seamless blend of tradition and modernity, the state has become a prime choice for wedding planners, corporate clients, and luxury travelers.

From houseboats and jungle resorts to plantation visits, Ayurveda-based wellness retreats, adventure tourism, and countryside trekking, Kerala continues to offer a diverse range of experiences. With enhanced promotional efforts and an expanded portfolio of attractions, the state is set to welcome an even larger influx of travelers in the coming months.
