Pachmarhi, the scenic hill station nestled in the Satpura ranges of Madhya Pradesh, is set for a major tourism transformation with development projects worth INR 33.88 crore. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav under the central vision of “Virasat Se Vikas” (From Heritage to Development), these initiatives aim to elevate Pachmarhi into a world-class sustainable tourism destination. The announcement aligns with the broader goal of positioning heritage-rich sites across Madhya Pradesh as attractive, experience-driven travel hotspots.
Speaking at the launch event, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting tourism by removing infrastructural bottlenecks and introducing global-standard amenities. He said that Pachmarhi, known for its natural beauty and cultural legacy, is being developed as a premier tourist hub. Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, and MD of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, added that efforts are focused on ensuring every visitor enjoys a comfortable and meaningful travel experience.
Among the key upgrades are improved tourist-centric facilities including potable drinking water systems, beautifully designed walking pathways, scenic landscaping, and the installation of dedicated ‘Pink Toilets’ managed by local Self-Help Groups (SHGs). These SHG-run facilities not only provide hygiene solutions but also support local livelihoods. In 2024 alone, Pachmarhi welcomed over 2.87 lakh tourists—a number expected to grow with the latest enhancements.
Significant developments have taken place at Dhoopgarh, Madhya Pradesh’s highest peak, where tourists now have access to safe drinking water through a newly installed water pipeline and pump house, built at a cost of INR 60 lakh. Additional infrastructure upgrades include the construction of Pink Toilet Lounges at Jatashankar and Pandav Caves (INR 19 lakh), a four-kilometre stone-paved pathway at Jaystambh (INR 10 crore), and beautification of Pachmarhi’s main entrance (INR 35 lakh).
To further enrich tourist experiences, the Satpura Retreat has been upgraded with a modern kitchen, restaurant, and swimming pool, supported by an investment of INR 1.35 crore. In keeping with the 2025 World Environment Day theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” Pachmarhi is also moving towards becoming a polythene-free zone. An INR 34 lakh fully automated RO water plant is being set up to provide safe drinking water in reusable glass bottles, promoting environmental sustainability.
Development work worth INR 1.98 crore is ongoing at Handi Khoh to include visitor-friendly amenities such as safety railings, temporary sheds, amphitheatre seating, parking, and accessible ramps. Key eco-tourism destinations within the Satpura Tiger Reserve—including Bee Fall, Mahadev, Chauragarh, Duchess Fall, Ramya Kund, Reechgarh, Foot Hill, and Shailanjali—are being upgraded with essential infrastructure at a cost of INR 2.13 crore.
In a major push towards heritage hospitality, the iconic Hilltop Bungalow is being redeveloped into a luxurious Heritage Homestay with four upscale rooms, a library, restaurant, swimming pool, and garden landscapes, backed by a INR 6.70 crore investment. Additionally, a INR 9.90 crore community centre is under construction to host weddings, conferences, and official meetings, featuring a 500-seat indoor hall and an outdoor lawn for 600 guests.
To support long-term landscaping and greenery projects across Pachmarhi, a central nursery is being developed at Hotel Glen View with an investment of INR 34 lakh. Wildlife tourism is also receiving a boost, with 11 new Trex Cruiser safari vehicles flagged off by the Chief Minister. These nine-seater vehicles will enhance the safari experience for tourists exploring the rich biodiversity of the Satpura forest.
With this comprehensive upgrade plan, Pachmarhi is being reimagined as a sustainable, accessible, and heritage-rich destination that seamlessly blends natural beauty with modern comfort. The investment not only strengthens Madhya Pradesh’s tourism infrastructure but also underscores the state’s commitment to inclusive and eco-conscious development.
