Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) have successfully concluded a series of high-impact B2B tourism roadshows and networking evenings in three key Indian cities Lucknow, Chandigarh, and Jaipur on June 23rd, 25th, and 27th respectively. The events aimed to reinforce Sri Lanka’s position as a year-round, top-tier travel destination for Indian tourists.
India continues to be Sri Lanka’s leading source market, contributing over 20% of the island nation’s total tourist arrivals. From January 1 to May 31, 2025, Sri Lanka recorded 1,029,803 international tourist arrivals, with 204,060 coming from India alone. Tourism revenue crossed an impressive USD 1.54 billion in the first six months of the year, driven significantly by growing Indian interest.
To further attract travellers from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan, the Sri Lankan delegation, led by Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Mr. Vijitha Herath and Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, was accompanied by over 35 tourism stakeholders. These included leading hotels, resorts, Destination Management Companies (DMCs), tour operators, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) service providers.
Each city witnessed participation from over 200 key Indian travel agents, tour operators, and media representatives. The roadshows focused on building direct B2B connections, exchanging knowledge, and unlocking future collaborations in travel and hospitality. A traditional Sri Lankan cultural dance troupe added a vibrant touch to the evenings, captivating attendees with performances that showcased the country’s rich heritage.
With visa-free entry now available for Indian tourists, Sri Lanka is poised for an even stronger surge in arrivals. Seamless travel connectivity plays a pivotal role, with SriLankan Airlines operating 90 weekly flights connecting nine major Indian cities to Sri Lanka. Additionally, Indigo and Air India run daily services, ensuring quick and convenient access for Indian travellers.
The events highlighted Sri Lanka’s pristine beaches, lush green landscapes, ancient temples, and unique wildlife appealing to every kind of tourist, from honeymooners and families to adventure seekers and spiritual travellers. By spotlighting Sri Lanka’s commitment to warm hospitality, cultural depth, and world-class experiences, the roadshows aimed to foster repeat tourism and long-term partnerships with India’s vast travel industry.
