Harin Fernando, Tourism Minister of Sri Lanka has acknowledged the exemplary role of India in helping the island country to revive tourism after political and economic crisis it faced.

“On a personal note, I must Thank Jyoti Mayal for her unwavering support as Taai President. She was like a mother to Sri Lanka, ensuring that every travel agent committed to sending at least 10 tourists. Thanks to these efforts, our tourism figures have seen a remarkable 101 percent year-on-year growth over the past 15 months.

” I must express my gratitude to India for the support extended to our tourism industry. In the aftermath of the crisis we faced 15 months ago, my responsibility was to manage the departure of every remaining tourist. However, our first outreach to revive our tourism sector was to India, where we visited several cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, and Cochin,” said Fernando.

The above comments were made by the Sri Lankan Tourism Minister during his speech at the Indian High Commission in Colombo, where he was the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations.
