WTM kicked off for 2024 with packed halls and a busy conference schedule.

WTM London, along with its Global Travel Partner, the Saudi Tourism Authority, emphasized the economic and cultural significance of the travel sector as the event officially opened its doors on November 5.

At the WTM Global Welcome, Jonathan Heastie, WTM Portfolio Director, remarked: “The halls are already bustling for what promises to be the largest WTM London yet. Over 4,000 exhibitors have joined us this year, with delegates representing 184 countries across the globe.”

“It’s an incredible turnout, and we’re expecting a truly exceptional World Travel Market,” Heastie continued. “Last year, deals worth £2.2 billion were struck within these halls. This year, we’ll hear from more than 200 world-class speakers across 70 engaging sessions.”

Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO and board member of the Saudi Tourism Authority, spoke passionately about the power of tourism to drive economies: “Tourism is a key engine for economic growth. It creates jobs for young people, entrepreneurs, remote communities, and small businesses. When we travel, we do so with open minds and the best of intentions.”

Meanwhile, India highlighted its new free e-visa initiative, Chalo India, with Mugdha Sinha, Director-General of India’s Ministry of Tourism, encouraging members of the Indian diaspora worldwide to invite five non-Indian friends to sign up for the program.

India welcomed 9.5 million tourists in 2023, with 920,000 visitors from the UK, making it the third-largest source market. The UK is also home to a vibrant Indian diaspora of nearly 2.4 million people.
