39th Annual IATO Convention kicks off in Bhopal, emphasizing India’s tourism potential

The 39th annual convention of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) began on Friday, August 30, at the Taj Lakefront in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The event commenced with the inauguration of the India Tourism Fair by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, India’s Minister of Tourism and Culture.

In his address, Shekhawat highlighted India’s global reputation for its rich culture and heritage, which attracts travellers from around the world. He emphasized that each region of India has its unique history, offering diverse and compelling experiences to international visitors.

Shekhawat noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has transformed into a land of opportunities over the past decade. “The perspective of the world towards India has changed,” he said, pointing to significant advancements in infrastructure and economic growth that have captured global attention. He further emphasized the growing middle-class population in India, with about 25 crore Indians rising out of poverty and joining the middle class. This shift has increased disposable income, creating immense opportunities for domestic tourism.

The Minister also spoke of the competitive spirit among Indian states to promote tourism, which is expected to boost the sector further. He expressed optimism that the convention would provide a platform for participants to explore new strategies to attract global tourists to India.

As the convention continues, industry leaders and stakeholders are expected to discuss key issues, trends, and strategies for advancing India’s tourism sector on a global scale.
