Jonty Rhodes Praises Kerala’s Beauty and Warmth During Wellness Break

Former South African cricketer and fielding legend Jonty Rhodes is soaking in the serene charm of God’s Own Country during his wellness and rejuvenation retreat in Alappuzha, Kerala.
In an online interaction, Kerala Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas appreciated Rhodes for engaging with local youth and playing a friendly game of beach cricket at Arthunkal — a video of which has since gone viral. The Minister, a self-confessed fan of Rhodes, expressed delight in seeing the cricket icon enjoy the spirit of Kerala.
Rhodes, who is on a 10-day wellness getaway, lauded the state’s natural beauty, hospitality, and rich culture. “Kerala is captivating — from the backwaters to the people’s warmth,” he said, adding that his family’s houseboat stay in Marari was a highlight of the trip.
During his visit to Fort Kochi, Rhodes also took a heritage walk and noted striking similarities between the coastal town and Cape Town, both showcasing a blend of Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences.
Kerala Tourism officials Shri Subair Kutty P.I., Joint Director, and Shri Sreekumar G., Deputy Director, presented Rhodes with a memento on behalf of the department.
Known for revolutionizing fielding with his unmatched agility, Jonty Rhodes remains a frequent visitor to India — and Kerala, it seems, has earned a special place in his heart.
