The Republic Day celebrations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, Dadar, began with the hoisting of the national flag by Honourable Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis. Among the key attractions of the ceremonial parade, the Konkan Tourism tableau emerged as a major highlight, drawing widespread appreciation from spectators.
Conceptualised under the vision of Honourable Tourism Minister Shri Shambhuraj Desai, the tableau presented a captivating blend of Konkan’s rich cultural heritage, historic landmarks, and evolving tourism infrastructure. Senior officials of the Tourism Department, including Dr. Pragya Manohar, Deputy Director (Tourism), Konkan Division, along with departmental officers and staff, were present on the occasion.
The tableau offered a panoramic portrayal of Konkan’s extensive coastline and iconic attractions, depicted with striking realism. A standout feature was the grand replica of Vijaydurg Fort, majestically overlooking the Arabian Sea. Equally mesmerising was the depiction of the Ganpatipule Temple, symbolising the region’s spiritual and cultural depth. The tableau also showcased Konkan’s lush landscapes through artistic visuals, complemented by models highlighting modern tourism experiences such as scuba diving, dolphin sightings, banana rides, and other water sports.
The centrepiece of the presentation was the model of the Ro-Ro ferry service, reflecting a transformative shift in coastal connectivity and travel along the Konkan belt. The tableau powerfully conveyed the harmonious coexistence of natural beauty, adventure tourism, and technological advancement in the region.
Adding to the impact was a specially composed Maharashtra Tourism theme song, which resonated with the audience through its celebration of Konkan’s natural splendour, folk traditions, cultural heritage, and artistic richness.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sanjay Khandare, Principal Secretary (Tourism), Government of Maharashtra, said,
“We are proud to present the Konkan Tourism tableau at the Republic Day parade. This initiative reflects our commitment to showcasing the region’s natural beauty, culture, and heritage. Through this platform, the immense tourism potential of Maharashtra has been effectively projected, which will give a fresh impetus to Konkan tourism.”
Dr. B. N. Patil (IAS), Director, Directorate of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, added,
“The Konkan Tourism tableau has achieved a fine balance between traditional heritage and modern tourism infrastructure. From Vijaydurg Fort and Ganpatipule Temple to water sports and the Ro-Ro service, it offered a holistic experience of Konkan. This presentation marks an important milestone in the journey of Maharashtra tourism.”
As part of the main Republic Day parade, the Konkan Tourism tableau significantly enhanced Maharashtra’s tourism visibility on the national stage, generating renewed interest and attention towards the Konkan region.
