IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers has stepped down from his position with immediate effect, the airline announced on Tuesday. The development comes three months after the carrier faced significant operational disruptions.
In a statement, the airline said its Board of Directors has accepted Elbers’ resignation and thanked him for his contribution and service to the organisation.
Following the development, Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of InterGlobe Aviation, will assume interim charge of the airline’s management until a new chief executive is appointed.
Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said Bhatia’s return to oversee operations is aimed at strengthening the company’s culture, reinforcing operational excellence and further enhancing reliability and service standards.
Commenting on the development, Bhatia said he feels a deep sense of responsibility towards the airline, its employees, customers and stakeholders. He added that the airline will continue to focus on strengthening its operational reliability while maintaining high standards of professionalism and service.
