A flight operated by Swiss International Air Lines aborted takeoff at Delhi airport shortly after 1 a.m. on April 26 following an engine-related issue, triggering a precautionary evacuation of the aircraft.
The flight, LX147, operated by an Airbus A330 (registration HB-JHK), was preparing for departure when the crew identified a problem with one of the engines and immediately discontinued takeoff procedures. After assessing the situation, the crew initiated an evacuation as a safety precaution.
A total of 228 passengers, along with 4 infants and 13 crew members, were onboard at the time of the incident. All passengers were safely evacuated and assisted by ground teams. The airline arranged hotel accommodation and rebooked affected passengers on alternative flights.
Four passengers were taken to hospital and remain under observation, while one cabin crew member sustained a minor foot injury. No serious injuries have been reported.
The airline has launched an internal investigation to determine the cause of the engine issue and has set up a task force to manage the situation. It stated that passenger safety remains its highest priority and that support teams are continuing to assist those affected.
