Air India, Air India Express shift Guwahati operations to new Terminal 2 from March 16

Air India and Air India Express will move all their flight operations to the newly inaugurated Terminal 2 (T2) at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati starting March 16, 2026, marking a key step in the airport’s ongoing modernization drive.

Currently operating from Terminal 1 (T1), both airlines will transition their services to T2, where together they will operate 38 daily flights, significantly boosting passenger traffic at the new facility.

The first Air India flight to arrive at the new terminal will be AI879 from Delhi, while the first departure will be AI880 to Delhi.

For Air India Express, the first arrival at T2 will be IX1517 from Kolkata, which will subsequently depart onward to Imphal.

Air India currently operates two daily return flights between Delhi and Guwahati, while its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express runs 17 daily flights connecting Guwahati with multiple cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur and Kolkata.

Airline officials said dedicated ground teams from both carriers will be deployed at the airport to assist passengers and ensure a smooth transition during the shift to the new terminal.

The relocation of airline operations forms part of Guwahati Airport’s broader infrastructure expansion aimed at handling rising passenger volumes and strengthening air connectivity across Northeast India.

The newly inaugurated Terminal 2 is expected to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve travel experience for both domestic and regional travellers using the gateway to the Northeast.
