Maharashtra to Launch India’s First Submarine Tourism Project off Sindhudurg Coast.

Maharashtra is set to introduce India’s first submarine tourism project off the Sindhudurg coast, marking a significant development in the country’s marine and adventure tourism sector.

According to reports, the ambitious project has received updated Coastal Regulation Zone clearance, subject to certain conditions. The initiative is being developed under the supervision of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation in collaboration with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd at an estimated investment of ₹112.46 crore.

The project will feature an underwater museum and an artificial reef near Sindhudurg along Maharashtra’s Konkan coastline. The structure is planned to be installed approximately 22 metres below sea level and is expected to become a major attraction for scuba divers, marine explorers and adventure travellers.

Officials believe the project could significantly enhance coastal tourism in Maharashtra while also supporting ecological conservation through artificial reef development. The initiative is expected to position the Konkan region as an emerging destination for experiential, marine and underwater tourism in India.
