
Air India has unveiled its newest signature lounge, The Maharaja Lounge, at San Francisco International Airport, marking another major milestone in the airline’s ongoing transformation journey. Officially opening to guests on May 23, the lounge reflects Air India’s renewed focus on delivering a world-class premium travel experience across key international destinations.
Strategically located near Gate A1 in the International Terminal at SFO, the 3,300 sq. ft. lounge blends contemporary luxury with timeless Indian elegance. Designed to offer a refined and immersive pre-flight experience, the lounge can accommodate up to 80 guests and will be accessible to Air India’s First and Business Class passengers, along with Platinum and Gold members of the Maharaja Club loyalty programme. A dedicated private section has also been created exclusively for First Class travellers.
Speaking on the launch, Campbell Wilson said the new lounge represents the next chapter in Air India’s premium hospitality vision. He noted that following the successful debut of the flagship Maharaja Lounge in Delhi, the San Francisco lounge reinforces the airline’s commitment to enhancing customer experience across important international markets, especially North America, which remains a crucial part of Air India’s global network.
Wilson further emphasised that Air India aims to consistently deliver elevated experiences that combine modern luxury with the warmth and authenticity of Indian hospitality as the airline continues its transformation into a world-class global carrier.
Conceptualised by globally renowned hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, The Maharaja Lounge reflects a sophisticated fusion of Indian heritage and modern aesthetics. Inspired by the recently launched flagship lounge in Delhi, this is the second signature Maharaja Lounge introduced by the airline as part of a larger global premium expansion strategy.
The interiors feature a rich palette of champagne, ivory, and deep red tones inspired by Air India’s brand identity. Signature ‘Vista’ motifs are elegantly incorporated throughout the walls and furnishings, creating an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and welcoming. The space has been thoughtfully curated to embody the essence of Indian hospitality through comfort, warmth, and understated sophistication.
Adding to its artistic appeal, the lounge showcases artworks by local artists celebrating regional culture and heritage. Select installations also feature creatively upcycled aircraft components transformed into contemporary design pieces, paying tribute to Air India’s long-standing association with art and innovation.
With this launch, Air India continues to strengthen its premium international footprint while redefining the travel experience for global passengers through thoughtfully designed spaces and elevated service standards.
