Yoga is not only knowledge but it is science as well: PM Modi

On June 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day by performing Yoga asanas at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar. Leading the event with a speech, the Prime Minister highlighted this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ emphasizing yoga’s essential role in fostering personal well-being and social harmony.

After the yoga session, PM Modi took ‘post yoga’ selfies with other participants, expressing his delight at the enthusiastic turnout. He posted on X, saying, “Post Yoga selfies in Srinagar! Unparalleled vibrancy here, at Dal Lake.”

People worldwide, including ministers, citizens, and various institutions, joined in performing yoga to mark the day. In his speech, the Prime Minister remarked, “On International Yoga Day, I have had the privilege of coming to Kashmir, the land of yoga and meditation. In Srinagar, we are feeling the power that yoga gives us. I congratulate all the people of the country and those doing Yoga in every corner of the world on International Yoga Day from the land of Kashmir.”

Highlighting yoga’s role in promoting India and boosting tourism, Modi added, “We are now seeing yoga tourism in states like Uttarakhand and Kerala. People are coming to India because they get to see authentic yoga.”

The event in Srinagar aimed to bolster participation and promote yoga in rural areas. The International Day of Yoga was first celebrated in 2014 and since then, PM Modi has led these celebrations at various iconic locations, including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
