India Climbs to 39th in Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024, Up from 54th in 2021

India has secured the 39th position in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024, published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), marking a significant improvement from its 54th position in the previous 2021 report. The 2021 ranking, however, has been revised to 38th place following updates in WEF’s methodology.

This impressive rise in ranking highlights India’s growing strength in the global tourism sector, driven by strategic investments in tourism infrastructure and initiatives aimed at enhancing the travel experience across the country.

The Ministry of Tourism has played a crucial role in these advancements, with ongoing support for tourism development projects under various schemes such as Swadesh Darshan, the National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD), and Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development. These initiatives focus on providing financial assistance to State Governments, Union Territories, and Central Agencies for the development of key tourism infrastructure and facilities at various destinations across India.

India’s improved ranking reflects the country’s commitment to boosting its tourism potential through enhanced infrastructure, promoting its rich cultural heritage, and offering better amenities to travelers.
