Akasa Air, India’s fastest-growing airline, has announced a strategic partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) to commence commercial flight operations from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). As one of the first airlines to confirm operations at NMIA, Akasa Air reinforces its commitment to enhancing connectivity and driving sustainable growth in Indian aviation.
Under the partnership, Akasa Air will initially operate over 100 weekly domestic departures from NMIA, scaling up to more than 300 domestic and 50 international weekly departures in the winter schedule. This expansion aligns with the airline’s vision to establish 10 parking bases and expand its footprint across key Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets by FY2027.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, stated that the airline’s foray into NMIA is a pivotal move in building a future-ready airline that meets the evolving needs of Indian travellers. He emphasized that Akasa will base the largest share of its operations and fleet at NMIA, leveraging its cutting-edge infrastructure to improve connectivity across western India and support regional economic development.
Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, welcomed Akasa Air as an inaugural partner and highlighted the airline’s rapid growth and innovation as a perfect match for NMIA’s ambition to become a leading domestic and international hub. In its first phase, NMIA is set to handle 20 million passengers and 0.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually, eventually expanding to a capacity of 90 million passengers and 3.2 MMT of cargo.
Akasa Air’s presence marks a key milestone in establishing Mumbai’s dual-airport strategy, easing congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and improving the overall travel experience. With expanded capacity, seamless connectivity, and modern amenities, NMIA is poised to be a future-ready alternative that will transform air travel across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and beyond.
