In a major push to enhance regional air connectivity and economic development, the Bihar government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the development of six regional airports across the state. The agreement aims to improve accessibility, promote tourism, attract investment, and support local communities through better aviation infrastructure.
The six airports identified under this initiative are located in Muzaffarpur, Purnea, Raxaul, Gaya, Jogbani, and Bhagalpur. Once operational, these airports are expected to significantly improve intra-state and inter-state air travel, making it easier for both business and personal travel while stimulating the local economy.
This collaborative effort aligns with the central government’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which focuses on connecting underserved and unserved regions of India through affordable air travel. By integrating Bihar’s remote areas into the national air network, the state aims to unlock new avenues of growth and ensure inclusive development.
Officials from the Bihar government and AAI have expressed confidence that the MoU will expedite the planning, construction, licensing, and operational readiness of the six regional airports. The move is seen as a transformative step that will elevate Bihar’s aviation sector and offer greater mobility, employment opportunities, and connectivity to millions of residents.
This initiative marks a turning point in Bihar’s infrastructure journey and reinforces the state’s commitment to building a more connected, accessible, and investment-friendly environment.
