Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have officially activated their codeshare agreement, enhancing connectivity between Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. The partnership allows passengers to book flights seamlessly across both networks, with Ethiopian Airlines set to launch services from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) starting 15 July, while Etihad will begin daily flights to Addis Ababa from 8 October 2025.
This milestone marks the first phase of a larger Joint Venture signed earlier this year between the two national carriers, aimed at expanding travel opportunities, simplifying booking processes, and boosting regional tourism and trade.
The codeshare agreement enables travelers to enjoy one booking, single check-in, and baggage transfers through to their final destinations. Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer Arik De highlighted that the partnership leverages both airlines’ networks to unlock seamless connections, particularly through Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa hubs.
Etihad passengers can now access Ethiopian Airlines’ vast African network, offering connections to 55 destinations across 33 countries, including key cities like Entebbe, Kigali, Harare, Kinshasa, Lusaka, and Victoria Falls. Conversely, Ethiopian Airlines passengers can connect via Abu Dhabi to 20 destinations operated by Etihad across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, including Sydney, Colombo, Phnom Penh, and Krabi.
This strategic alliance aligns with Etihad’s commitment to expand its African footprint in 2025 by launching new routes and increasing frequencies, supporting growing demand across the continent and reinforcing its role as a global connector.
