Tourism Fiji has launched its second Counting Coral Sculptural Coral Gene Bank on the Pacific country’s Vomo island.
It’s another important step towards sustainable tourism and highlights the importance of preserving the marine ecosystems, said Viliame Gavoka, Fiji’s deputy prime minister and minister of tourism, on Monday.
He said the two coral gene banks will host more than 500 parent corals, serving as an educational focal point and attraction, spotlighting the beauty and fragility of coral reefs.
Tourism Fiji Chief Executive Brent Hill said the project symbolizes the commitment of all Fijians to the restoration and preservation of Fiji’s coral ecosystems, a crucial part of the marine environment that also sets a standard for environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism, reported Xinhua News Agency
This initiative is more than a conservation effort, it’s a bridge that will connect people with the underwater wonders of the world and inspire every visitor to become an advocate for marine preservation, Hill added.
