In a powerful celebration of World Ocean Day 2025, ibis India reinforced its commitment to sustainability through a large-scale coastal clean-up campaign, uniting ten ibis hotels across key coastal cities Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, and Kochi. Partnering with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the initiative mobilised more than 600 volunteers and resulted in the collection of over 500 kilograms of waste in just one day.
Aligned with this year’s global World Ocean Day theme, “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us,” the campaign aimed to spotlight the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems and safeguard the natural environments that sustain life on Earth. With many ibis properties located near beaches and waterfronts, the brand regularly witnesses the negative impact of ocean pollution, which added a sense of urgency and relevance to the initiative.
“At ibis, sustainability is not just an initiative; it is part of our brand DNA,” said Tejus Jose, Director of Operations, ibis and ibis Styles India. “This clean-up drive was about more than removing waste; it was a meaningful step towards preserving marine life and inspiring conversations that lead to lasting change. We believe hospitality can and should make a difference.”
Beyond cleaning up the beaches, ibis hotels also organised public awareness sessions focused on marine pollution, and conducted interactive activities with school children, local fishermen, and tourists. These events aimed to drive long-term behavioural change and promote collective environmental responsibility.
This initiative by ibis India not only addressed immediate environmental concerns but also contributed to the broader mission of restoring ocean health, showing how the hospitality sector can lead with purpose and drive impactful community engagement.
