In a tragic turn of events, Lajpat Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of Lotus Trans Travels, passed away last Friday in Gurugram. Rai was undergoing cardiac treatment at Medanta Hospital in the Millennium City.
Founded in 1983, Lotus Trans Travels has offices in New Delhi and Tokyo. Rai, a veteran in the inbound tourism industry, played a pivotal role in promoting Buddhist tourism in India. As a member of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), he expanded into the hospitality industry in 1995 under the brand name “Lotus Nikko Hotels.” The company now operates three hotels in Bodhgaya, Kushinagar, and Shravasti, and owns Bistro 360, a fine dining restaurant in South Delhi.
Rai is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.
