In a historic move to enhance connectivity in the region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the world’s highest single-arch railway bridge in Indian-administered Kashmir. The engineering marvel, constructed over the Chenab River, stands 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower and marks a significant milestone for Indian Railways.
This iconic bridge is part of a 272-kilometre all-weather railway line designed to link Jammu with the Kashmir valley, bringing train connectivity to the region for the first time. The ambitious project, which took over two decades to complete, is expected to boost economic growth, tourism, and mobility for the local population.
The single-arch structure, known for its distinctive design with a continuous arch between two supports, showcases India’s growing infrastructure capabilities and its commitment to integrating remote regions with the national rail network.
