Vietjet Expands China Network with Five New Routes Amid Vietnam–China Cooperation Push

Vietnam’s leading low-cost carrier Vietjet has announced the launch of five new routes connecting Vietnam and China, reinforcing its position as a key aviation bridge between the two countries. The announcement was made during the state visit of To Lam to China, at the invitation of Xi Jinping, alongside the Investment Cooperation Conference in Beijing.

The new routes include Hanoi–Hangzhou, Hanoi–Enshi, Hanoi–Huangshan, Ho Chi Minh City–Guilin, and Ho Chi Minh City–Huangshan. Of these, Hanoi–Enshi and Ho Chi Minh City–Guilin have already commenced operations in April 2026. These additions aim to strengthen connectivity between key economic, cultural, and tourism hubs across both nations.

The expansion comes at a time when Vietnam and China are actively promoting bilateral tourism and trade under the framework of the Vietnam–China Tourism Cooperation Year. Vietjet’s growing network reflects this momentum, with the airline having already operated 131 routes between the two countries between 2014 and 2025, facilitating nearly 70,000 flights and serving over 14.5 million passengers. Its network currently connects eight Vietnamese airports with 55 destinations across China.

The route expansion was announced alongside broader investment discussions led by Sovico Group, Vietjet’s parent company. The conference brought together nearly 200 leading Chinese corporations, including COMAC and Huawei, focusing on collaboration in urban railways, smart infrastructure, aviation finance, and logistics.

Highlighting the airline’s growing global recognition, Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor by COMAC University for her contributions to aviation research and international cooperation.

Strategically, this expansion positions Vietjet beyond its identity as a low-cost carrier, transforming it into a critical enabler of regional connectivity. By linking secondary cities and emerging tourism destinations, the airline is expected to unlock new travel flows, strengthen economic ties, and deepen cultural exchanges between Vietnam and China.
