The Sommeliers Association of India (SAI) has announced the inaugural edition of the “2025 SAI Best Sommelier of India” competition, a landmark event aimed at elevating the sommelier profession in India. The competition will take place at The LaLit Lawn, Mumbai, and promises to showcase the exceptional talent, technical expertise, and creativity of Indian wine professionals.
The event will feature an engaging format, including quarterfinals, semi-finals, and a thrilling grand finale, judged by an elite panel of esteemed wine professionals. The top three winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Singapore to attend the prestigious ASI Education Boot Camp. The ultimate winner will represent India at the 2025 ASI Contest Best Sommelier of Asia & Pacific Competition in Malaysia and advance to compete at the 2026 ASI Contest Best Sommelier of the World Competition in Portugal.
Amrita Singh, Co-Founder and President of SAI, described the event as a “historic milestone” for India’s wine community, offering a unique platform for sommeliers to gain global recognition through its association with the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI). Mattia Antonio Cianca, Co-Founder and Vice President, emphasized that the competition is more than a showcase of expertise, calling it a “transformative journey” that connects Indian sommeliers to the global wine community and opens doors to international opportunities.
