India’s aviation sector is set for a significant boost as the Adani Group has entered into a strategic partnership with Brazilian aerospace major Embraer to explore commercial aircraft manufacturing in India. The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding, aims to establish an aircraft assembly line along with a comprehensive ecosystem for regional transport aircraft, marking a major step towards strengthening India’s aerospace capabilities.
The agreement, led by Adani Defence & Aerospace and Embraer, represents Adani Group’s entry into commercial aircraft manufacturing. Beyond assembly, the partnership envisions cooperation across the aviation value chain, including manufacturing, supply chain development, maintenance and repair operations, aftermarket services, pilot training and other aviation support activities.
The initiative aligns closely with India’s broader goals of self-reliance in manufacturing and the government’s push to develop a robust domestic aerospace sector. It is also expected to support regional connectivity by addressing the growing need for smaller, efficient aircraft suited for short-haul routes and underserved airports, strengthening India’s regional aviation network.
Embraer, a globally respected manufacturer of regional jets with seating capacities ranging from 70 to over 140 passengers, currently produces its civil aircraft outside India. The proposed collaboration would mark its first significant move towards commercial aircraft assembly in the Asian region, tapping into India’s rapidly expanding air travel market.
While details related to investment size and the location of the proposed facility are yet to be finalised, multiple sites are reportedly under evaluation, with announcements expected in due course. Industry experts believe the project could generate substantial high-skilled employment and position India as an emerging hub in the global aerospace supply chain.
The partnership also reflects growing industrial cooperation between India and Brazil and comes at a time when India’s aviation market is projected to require several hundred new aircraft over the coming decades, making the Adani–Embraer collaboration strategically significant for the future of Indian aviation.
