Currently 88% complete and slated for commercial operations later this year, the ₹924.44 crore four-laning project under the Indore–Ichhapur Economic Corridor is set to fundamentally optimize transit logistics and inventory creation across Central India.

Most notably, the completion of three advanced New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) structures—the Bherughat Tunnel (575m), Baigram Tunnel (480m), and Choral Ghat Tunnel (550m)—will completely bypass hazardous, accident-prone ghat terrains. This infrastructure shift slashes travel times between the commercial and aviation hub of Indore and the high-volume spiritual tourism destination of Omkareshwar from up to three hours down to just 60 minutes. For transport providers and coach operators, this 60% reduction in transit time drastically optimizes daily fleet utilization, lowers fuel overheads, and enables high-margin day-trip packaging without compromising client comfort.
Beyond immediate operational efficiencies, the upgraded corridor establishes a high-speed, reliable transit artery linking Western Madhya Pradesh directly to Hyderabad via Jalgaon, Maharashtra. This opens up lucrative new multi-state road itinerary circuits for inbound agents looking to bridge corporate MICE hubs with regional heritage routes. Furthermore, the high-capacity corridor provides the necessary logistical foundation to handle the massive inter-city pilgrim traffic expected between the twin Jyotirlingas—Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain and Omkareshwar in Khandwa—during the upcoming Simhastha 2028 mega-event.
