Major art event in Moscow attracts participants from different parts of the world

In August 2024, Moscow is hosting the “Big Cities in Moscow” photo exhibition, featuring famous photographers from BRICS countries, as well as the video art contest ‘WOWMOSCOW’, the winner of which will make a short film about the city. Both events are taking place in Moscow as part of the large-scale international festival-forum “Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030”, from August 1 until September 8.

The photo exhibition will be attended by 14 recognised masters of photography with names renowned on a worldwide scale – Tom Lisboa, Liu Xiaoxia, Letitia Lampert, Alexander Petrosyan, and other authors from Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa. The exhibition opened on August 8 in the “Underground Museum” on the Zaryadye Park territory, and is accessible to all visitors, covering nine other locations in Moscow, each of which is hosting the works of one of the participants.

The event provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the images of other cities through the lenses of BRICS photographers on Arbat Street, in Krasnaya Presnya Park and the “Three Vokzala. Depot” foodmall, at all three sites of VDNKh: the recreational area near the “Zolotoy Kolos” fountain, the Cinema Museum square and the Southern entrance of Ostankino Park, as well as in the “Severnoe Chertanovo” district and on Pokrovsky and Yauzsky boulevards.

The event has been curated by Irina Chmyreva, art director of the PhotoVisa International Festival of Photography and moderator of numerous international exhibitions of photography and contemporary art.

In addition to the main programme of exhibitions, guests of the forum-festival will be offered public lectures and master classes with the project curator and photographers. They will talk about different styles and techniques of photography that can be used to convey the atmosphere of the megapolis. During the month of August, the participants of the photo exhibition will take pictures of Moscow, which will later form the basis of a book about the capital.

Besides renowned photographers, Moscow will also welcome 10 aspiring filmmakers from India, China, Indonesia, Brazil and Russia. They have become finalists of the WOWMOSCOW video art contest, which is also being held within the framework of the forum-festival “Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030”. The finalists were selected from among 294 participants from 12 countries. The international jury will determine the winner on August 15 at a solemn ceremony. Master classes are waiting for them, where they will receive valuable recommendations on the further development of their skills and the creation of their own projects. The main prize for the winner, who will be determined by an authoritative international jury, is the opportunity to make a short film about Moscow. The film will be screened on August 24 in the Small Amphitheatre of Zaryadye Park, as part of the Moscow International Film Week.

The cycle of events will be held at more than 30 sites in different districts of the city. All 39 days of “Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030” promises a rich programme where most of the activities will be held outdoors.

Innovations, the achievements of Moscow-based manufacturers, the latest achievements of urban planning and urban economy, plans for the development of transportation, advanced technologies in health care and education, creative industries and sports are waiting for Muscovites and guests of the city. The flagship sites of “Territories of the Future. Moscow 2030” will be located in the city centre, Luzhniki, Expocentre and Skolkovo.
