Star Air embarks on major fleet expansion, aiming for 25 aircraft in 3 years to boost regional connectivity

Star Air, the aviation branch of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group (SGG), has announced an ambitious fleet expansion plan, with a target to grow to a 25-aircraft fleet within the next three years. In the current fiscal year (FY25), Star Air will induct two new Embraer E175 aircraft, with an additional four slated for FY26, positioning the airline to increase its presence in India’s underserved markets and support the Government of India’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) initiative, which seeks to make air travel accessible to all.

This plan is part of Star Air’s broader strategy of “Connecting Real India,” targeting increased connectivity for Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. With a current fleet of nine aircraft—four Embraer E175s and five Embraer E145s—the addition of these new E175s will enhance Star Air’s operational capacity and efficiency. Known for their fuel efficiency and passenger comfort, the E175s will enable Star Air to offer a more economical and comfortable travel experience across its growing network.

Simran S Tiwana, CEO of Star Air, highlighted the significance of the expansion: “The addition of these new Embraer E175 aircraft marks a pivotal step in our journey. As we expand our fleet to 25 aircraft, we reaffirm our commitment to reaching more underserved markets and setting new standards in air travel. Each milestone in this expansion brings us closer to connecting more of Real India, offering fast, efficient, and high-quality flying experiences for our passengers.”

Since its launch in 2019, Star Air has flown over 1.3 million passengers across 21 destinations, becoming a popular choice for travelers in states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Punjab, Goa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Through accessible, affordable, and reliable services, the airline has fostered new air travel options in areas where connectivity was once limited.
