Chinese authorities announced on November 22, 2024, the addition of Japan and eight other countries to its visa-free entry program. Effective from November 30, 2024, citizens of these nations can travel to China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. This policy will remain in place until December 31, 2025.
The move addresses long-standing requests to resume visa-free access for Japanese nationals, suspended in recent years. Earlier in 2024, China expressed its intent to collaborate with Japan to enhance bilateral travel convenience, emphasizing mutual benefits for personnel exchanges.
Japan has also taken reciprocal steps by simplifying visa requirements for Chinese visitors, signaling improved cooperation between the two nations on travel facilitation.
