India International Travel Mart celebrates 25th anniversary in Mumbai

Sphere Travelmedia & Exhibitions is celebrating the 25th year of the India International Travel Mart (IITM), which kicked off on October 23 at the Nehru Centre, Worli, running until October 25. Recognized as a hallmark event in India’s travel and tourism sector, IITM serves as a premier platform for professionals across travel, tourism, and hospitality to connect, network, and showcase their offerings.

This year’s event brings together more than 100 exhibitors from 15 Indian states and 5 international destinations, making it one of the most comprehensive gatherings for travel and tourism enthusiasts. Exhibitors include travel agents, tour operators, destination management companies (DMCs), hotels, resorts, national tourism offices, technology platforms, and online travel portals.

“IITM is more than an exhibition; it’s a celebration of the incredible journey of the travel industry over the last 25 years,” said Rohit Hangal, Director of Sphere TravelMedia. “This event provides a meeting point for the world’s best minds in the industry, driving sustainable practices, technological innovation, and global partnerships.”

The exhibition covers a diverse range of travel experiences, from cultural tours and adventure activities to wildlife excursions and pilgrimage routes, offering attendees opportunities to discover new travel options and forge partnerships. By promoting responsible tourism and wellness, IITM aims to showcase eco-friendly initiatives, community-based projects, and conservation efforts that are helping preserve India’s rich heritage.

With a focus on domestic and outbound tourism, IITM 2024 comes just in time to boost interest in travel ahead of the Christmas holiday season. Attendees have the chance to explore a wide array of tourism offerings, including new destinations, while engaging with key industry players.

Sanjay Hakhu, Director of Sphere TravelMedia, emphasized the evolving nature of India’s travel landscape, particularly the growing interest in outbound tourism. “India’s evolving travel landscape offers immense potential, particularly in outbound tourism, as more Indian travelers seek unique global experiences. IITM serves as a vital hub, bringing international destinations closer to Indian travelers and fostering growth for the future,” Hakhu noted.

India’s booming tourism sector is backed by strong economic growth. With a 7.2% GDP growth in the 2022-2023 fiscal year and projections of 6.3% growth for FY24 and FY25, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the country’s thriving economy is driving demand for travel. A growing middle class, rising disposable incomes, and a cultural shift in favor of exploration have all contributed to this surge.

The domestic travel market has also seen a significant rebound, with Indians exploring their own country more than ever before. From the Himalayan mountains to coastal retreats, domestic tourism has played a key role in reviving the sector following the pandemic.
