Slovenia to Host Largest Cycling Event in Its History, Boosting Global Sports Tourism Appeal

Slovenia is preparing to host the largest cycling event in its history from October 2 to 7, 2026, bringing together 800 riders from over 50 countries and placing the destination firmly in the global sports tourism spotlight.

The championship will feature 14 races across multiple Slovenian towns including Ljubljana, Kranj, Kamnik and Škofja Loka, attracting an estimated 300,000 spectators along the race routes.

The event will also showcase some of Slovenia’s biggest cycling stars, including Tadej Pogačar, Primož Roglič and Urška Žigart, who are expected to compete in national colours.

Organisers estimate global television and digital viewership of nearly 16.5 million, significantly strengthening Slovenia’s international tourism visibility.

To support inbound travel, a dedicated tourism landing page has been launched providing travel information and visitor resources for cycling fans attending the event.

UEC President Enrico Della Casa described the event as a reflection of Slovenia’s “golden age of cycling,” highlighting the country’s success in developing both elite champions and emerging talent.

The championship is expected to further position Slovenia as a leading sports tourism and outdoor adventure destination in Europe.
