
Marriott International has marked a milestone year in South Asia, securing 42 new deals in 2024 and adding 7,000 rooms to its development pipeline. This expansion has propelled the region’s total pipeline to nearly 20,000 rooms by year-end, reflecting robust growth driven by strong demand in key metropolitan markets such as Hyderabad, Gurugram, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. With a remarkable 11% year-over-year RevPAR increase, the hospitality giant continues to strengthen its foothold in the region.
Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International, emphasized South Asia’s pivotal role in the company’s global strategy during his recent visit to India. He highlighted Marriott’s commitment to economic growth, job creation, and expansion into emerging markets while enhancing the Marriott Bonvoy travel platform. The company’s 2024 pipeline demonstrates a well-balanced growth trajectory, with 50% of new rooms in Tier 1 cities, 26% in leisure destinations, and a significant share from portfolio deals, showcasing strong developer confidence.
The luxury hospitality segment remains a major growth driver, with affluent travelers demanding premium amenities and destination-centric experiences. Marriott is expanding its luxury offerings with The Ritz-Carlton set to debut in Jaipur, Udaipur, and Chennai, while Hyderabad will welcome the first W Hotels and St. Regis properties by 2028 and 2031, respectively. JW Marriott continues its rapid growth with six new properties, increasing its regional presence to 27 hotels. Additionally, the highly anticipated Mumbai EDITION is scheduled to open in 2029.
Marriott’s premium brand portfolio also saw notable expansion with the opening of the 150th property in India, Katra Marriott Resort & Spa. Growth in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities is gaining traction, with upcoming hotels in Jaipur, Surat, Shimla, Jalandhar, and Coorg. The company’s Select Service brands, representing 31% of signed deals, are driving growth in emerging destinations and key capitals, catering to budget-conscious travelers. Moxy Hotels made its South Asia debut with Moxy Bengaluru Airport Prestige Tech Cloud in 2024, with future openings planned in Kathmandu, Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
Strengthening its technological capabilities, Marriott launched its first global capability center (GCC) in Hyderabad in October 2024. This facility, known as the Marriott Tech Accelerator, leverages Hyderabad’s top-tier tech talent to enhance the company’s global technology infrastructure, security capabilities, and next-gen solutions across 141 countries.
With 168 properties across 17 brands in South Asia and 14 new hotels set to open in 2025, Marriott International remains a dominant force in the region’s hospitality industry. The company’s strategic expansion underscores its commitment to meeting evolving traveler needs while driving economic impact and fostering local tourism growth.
