Rise of Women in Adventure Travel: Aquaterra Adventures Report Highlights Solo Female Explorers

A recent study by Aquaterra Adventures, titled Decoding Women Travelers and Their Affinity to Adventure Travel, has shed light on the growing trend of solo female adventurers in India. The report reveals that women aged 45 to 55 are the most active solo travelers, often joining groups or traveling with other women for companionship and shared experiences.

According to the findings, women in their 50s tend to have higher disposable incomes and fewer family responsibilities, allowing them the freedom to explore life on their own terms. Many seek adventure travel as a means of self-expression, resilience-building, and personal growth. The thrill of the outdoors helps them step out of their comfort zones, boosting confidence and independence.

Vaibhav Kala, Founder of Aquaterra Adventures India Pvt Ltd, highlighted this trend, stating, “Over the last 30 years, 50% of our adventure travelers have been solo women. Many seek liberation, especially after fulfilling family duties. Safety and like-minded travel companions are key concerns for them. Interestingly, we see a rising number of women using these experiences to gain clarity, particularly those going through life transitions such as separation.”

The study also identified top-rated adventure destinations for solo female travelers, including the Dolomites in Italy, Aconcagua in Argentina, Mont Blanc Circuit in Europe, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and the Manaslu Circuit in Nepal. Interest in high-adrenaline sports like kayaking is growing, with expeditions on India’s Tons, Zanskar, Siang, and Subansari rivers gaining popularity.
